by Arman Ayvazyan, Armenia, 2022, 17' - out of competition - regional premiere
The Nagorno-Karabakh war ended with a ceasefire brokered by Russia that forced Armenia to cede the territory it controlled to Azerbaijan. Thousands of Armenians living in these regions were forced to leave their homes. A group of volunteers are risking their lives to try to save the beautiful and ancient Armenian stone inscriptions known as “khachkar” from destruction. Saving ancestral culture is a nonviolent action, and a rightful one.
